Beyoncé is promoting a plant-based diet by offering 'lifetime' concert tickets

TwitterFacebook

Remember all those articles that came out last year advising us to switch to "flexitarian" diets in order to fight climate change? Beyoncé clearly does.

Following the publication of a scientific study that advised changing to more plant-based meals in order to keep "the food systems within environmental limits", the singer shared a post on Instagram promoting The Greenprint Project — a website linked to a diet book recently published by her trainer Marco Borges, for which her and Jay-Z provided the intro.

"Our Greenprint is the positive impact we can have on the world by eating plant-based meals," explains the site, before giving examples of how this type of diet can help the environment. Read more...

Apple's 2020 iPhone will have a more powerful 3D camera, report says

TwitterFacebook

Apple may be doubling down on its 3D camera tech.

A new report from Bloomberg, citing people familiar with Apple's plans, claims the company plans to launch iPhones with a more powerful, laser-based 3D camera as soon as 2020.

According to the report, this won't be just a small upgrade to the iPhone's current 3D camera, which powers the company's Face ID tech. The new, laser-based camera (in contrast to the dot-projection tech Apple is using now) will work "up to about 15 feet" from the iPhone, which means it'll be about more than just facial recognition.  Read more...

Emilia Clarke having 'Brexit distraction' drinks with Emma Thompson is a national mood

TwitterFacebook

Watching from the sidelines as Brexit plays out is really stressful. No one really knows what's going on, or how it's all gonna pan out. It's the kind of thing that just makes you want a big ol' drink just thinking about it.

Apparently, this goes for celebrities as wellGame of Thrones star Emilia Clarke just posted a photo on Instagram from the set of her upcoming movie Last Christmas (which is exactly what it sounds like: a holiday romance based on the 1984 Wham! hit song).

In the photo, Clarke is drinking martinis with co-star Henry Golding (from Crazy Rich Asians), Emma Thompson (who co-wrote the script), and director Paul Feig.  Read more...

Every ‘90s kid will want this adorable ink-less note printer that's on sale

TwitterFacebook

The golden age of physical notes and snail mail is long gone.

Handwritten notes have been replaced by the infamous Notes app. Productivity software has superseded to-do lists and shopping lists. Emails have kicked snail mail to the curb. And the paper fortune teller you loved making in high school that your teacher kept confiscating? Those have been substituted with endless online quizzes.

The only people exchanging letters are Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky, and even they are fictional.

This is, without doubt, a shame. Physical notes still carry a certain allure. And now that telegrams are obsolete, there is no easy way to send sweet nothings to the people you care about on the fly without resorting to electronic messaging. Read more...

So Sad! Workers Gruesomely Murder Business Woman Who Is Also Mom To Nigerian Singer

The owner of Etashol Hotel and Suites, located on Budland Street in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Olusola, who also doubles as the mother of Nigerian singer, Melissa Whiskey and the manager of her hotel, Tunji Omikunle, have been murdered.

Punch Metro gathered that the deceased were drugged, tied up and strangled by a gang that included some workers at the hotel.

Olusola, who had lived in London, the United Kingdom, for 35 years, was said to have returned to Nigeria recently and opened the hotel for business in March 2018.

A Punch correspondent learnt that the 56-year-old had issues with some of the workers, who allegedly defrauded the hotel of millions of naira.

Two of the workers were reportedly sacked after the police were invited to look into the matter.

Last week Thursday, a gang said to have consisted some of the sacked workers and some still in the employment of the hotel, allegedly conspired among themselves and drugged Olusola and Tunji.

They allegedly deactivated the Closed Circuit Television cameras on the premises, dragged the manager into a toilet, where his hands and feet were tied.

A Punch correspondent learnt that Tunji was strangled, after which the suspects proceeded to Olusola’s room and strangled her too.

Relatives of the deceased told our correspondent that the suspects fled the hotel, as family members met the lifeless bodies of the victims in the hotel.

The case was reported at the Ojodu Abiodun Police Station.

A family member of the late businesswoman, who asked not to be named, said Olusola was planning to lease out the hotel and return to London when tragedy struck.

She said, “The incident happened on Thursday night cum Friday morning. I was called that my sister had been murdered by the boys working for her in the hotel.

“From what I learnt, the manager had dragged one of them, called Light, to a police station for involvement in fraud in the hotel. There were also cases of stealing involving these guys. Two of them were sacked.

“On Thursday night, the men tied Tunji’s hands and feet and strangled him. I think it was after they had killed Tunji that they got access to the card that opens my sister’s room. They went to her bed, tied her up and strangled her.”

Punch Metro learnt that the woman’s 12-year-old son, who was to go to school on Friday morning, was the first to discover the mother’s corpse.

Around 7am when the school bus came to pick him, a vigilante member, who had tried unsuccessfully to reach the deceased businesswoman on the telephone, insisted on knowing her whereabouts from the son.

The boy was said to have found her dead on the bed in her room.

The family member added, “The child sleeps in a room in the hotel. Tunji used to wake him up and prepare him for school. But when the boy did not see the manager that morning and his school bus had arrived, he quickly got himself ready and ran out.

“However, a vigilante member, who had suspected that something was amiss after noticing some of the workers’ movements the previous night, waited at the hotel’s gate. The man had called both Tunji and the woman on their phones without getting any response.

“When the boy was hurrying to school that morning, the man said he should go and call the manager. The boy went inside and returned, saying he could not find the manager. He was hurrying to get into the school bus when the man said he should go and call his mother.

“He went to her room and raised the alarm after discovering her corpse.”

Punch correspondent learnt that Olusola, who hailed from Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, had separated from her husband.

Tunji’s uncle, Chief Tunde Omikunle, said the deceased was survived by his wife and twin children.

Tunde said, “He grew up with me before learning fashion designing. And when he was done, the family got a shop for him; he even had apprentices until last year when he said he had been employed as a manager in the hotel.

“His wife, a graduate, had just been delivered of a set of twins. She stays in Ibadan. In fact, he wanted to go to meet his family in Ibadan when his boss asked him to wait. It was that night that he and the boss were killed.

“From what we know, two of the sacked workers conspired with those still there to carry out the act. They drugged him and took him to a toilet, where he was strangled. Although they destroyed the CCTV in the hotel in order to cover their tracks, we still got to know that they were responsible for the killings.”

Punch Metro learnt that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, where one of the workers was being interrogated.

A source said the police had recovered the ropes used to commit the crime.

“There was no stab wound or anything on the corpses. The victims were strangled. We recovered the ropes used to commit the crime,” the source said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer, Melissa has taken to Instagram to mourn the death of her mother. A heartbroken Melissa wrote;

''In this life that is short learn to value and make the most of your loved ones before it is too late. This morning my mother was murdered in Nigeria a country she loved and gave everything to.... my life will never be the same i will never be the same... Not sure if life has any purpose anymore not sure why God allowed these wicked evil people to take my mother... but i find solace knowing my mother is in heaven .... i love you mum ... may God keep you hold you ... i thank God for blessing me with a mother like you... my mother was the most determined and hard working person i met in life and i know she is in heaven ?? #rip #mybeautifulmum

Brit Who Forced Plane To Turn Around Because Of His Aggressive Behaviour Faces £115k Lawsuit

A drunk Brit who forced a flight from Canada to London to turn around has been jailed and ordered to pay £12,000.

And he could face a further £100,000 bill if the airline demands compensation from him.

David Stephen Young, 44, was filmed being thrown off the Westjet flight, which was forced to return to Calgary International Airport in Alberta, Western Canada.

He admitted violently resisting arrest and failing to comply with in-flight security protocols, and was jailed for 10 days.

His lawyer, Michelle Parhar, said that Young was a recovering alcoholic who had been clean 18 months but had returned to drinking after a death in the family and after getting a divorce.

He had been in Canada visiting his mum in British Columbia over the Christmas holidays and before boarding the flight had drunk six alcoholic drinks.

The court heard that he had become aggressive towards the flight attendants and another passenger.
Reports state he repeatedly tried to use the lavatory during takeoff. Then he is said to have tried to use the toilet when the seat belt light was on in flight and when he was told to return to his seat, he forced his way inside the toilet anyway, and then continued to be aggressive upon returning to his seat.

Reports state that after about an hour of his antics, the decision was taken to turn the plane around and fly back to Calgary.

The plane had to dump an unspecified quantity of fuel before landing back at Calgary. He was met by police and was escorted off the plane.

He was charged with criminal harassment, causing a disturbance and assaulting a police officer.
The Brit has now been handed a whopping £12,270 fine by a judge to cover the airline's fuel costs and that’s even if the airline are not suing for more money.

Moving to a different city or country can be lonely. Here are some things that helped me cope.

TwitterFacebook

The decision to move from Copenhagen to London was an easy one. I was 26, recently unemployed, and single. So when I was offered a job in a cosmopolitan city with a population twice that of my home country, I said yes without much hesitation. I didn’t know anyone there, but shaking things up was exactly what I needed, so I rented out my apartment and left. I was excited.

We’re told that making big changes in life is invigorating. That exposing yourself to new things and new people is the only way to really get to know yourself. That to grow as a person, you must challenge yourself. I find this to be mostly true, but I’ve also discovered that actually uprooting yourself, thrilling as it may be, comes with its own set of challenges. Challenges that have taken time to develop coping strategies for.  Read more...

Ambode Versus Lagos Assembly: Things Are Getting Serious

The Lagos State House Assembly yesterday insisted that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and some of his commissioners it invited to explain infractions on this year’s budget must appear before it.

The Assembly said should the infractions continue, it would apply constitutional provisions for punitive measure: impeachment.

Majority Leader Sanai Agunbiade addressed reporters last night after an emergency parliamentary meeting by the lawmakers.

The lawmaker said nobody was witch-hunting the governor, as being insinuated in some quarters, but that the infractions were serious issues the Assembly could not overlook.

He said the Assembly decided to debunk the wrong information and misconception being bandied around over the Assembly’s resolutions on Ambode last Monday.

There was a massive protest yesterday at the Assembly by concerned Lagosians against the planned impeachment of the governor.

The situation compelled the lawmakers to go into an emergency parliamentary meeting after the protest.

Referring to the protest, Agunbiade said the Assembly was not saying Ambode should end his tenure but that because of issues surrounding the budget, he was summoned by the Assembly.

According to him, the major contention is that he had started spending from this year’s budget, which has not been laid before the Assembly.

Agunbiade insisted that such action was against constitutional provisions.

He added: “The budget is supposed to have been laid before the commencement of another fiscal year. This has always been the practice in the state. Unless it is laid, you cannot spend from it. But the governor has made expenditure from the budget.

“There are also some infractions the Assembly observed about the 2018 budget, the expenditure made outside the budget, which necessitated the invitation the Assembly extended to him and some commissioners to explain things.

“It is not witch-hunting, as some people believe. To make expenditure from the budget, you must have laid it before the Assembly. For now, we don’t have the budget. So, you can’t spend. As legislators, we must do things properly.”

Agunbiade also corrected some misconceptions, which he said were being tied to the Ambode issue. The lawmakers said it was not true that the Assembly was after Ambode because he refused to fund their campaign.

“We want Lagos to flourish, but we cannot compromise the regulations or constitutional provisions concerning appropriation."

Ambode supporters say they will dump APC if the threat is not stopped.

Kylie Minogue Forced To Call Police After Stalker WON’T Leave Her Home

A "very shaken" Kylie Minogue was forced to call in police after a stalker hounded the pop singer at her home, according to reports.

Kylie's neighbours first alerted her to the man that then set about a "sustained campaign" against the 50-year-old singing legend, the Sun says.

The Queen of Pop was then hounded by the stalker for weeks leaving her feeling 'terrified' before she got the police involved, the paper claims.

A source told The Sun the situation came to a head when, "the man repeatedly pressed the intercom button to her home for hours on end last week and refused to leave."

This left Kylie "quite upset" and she called the police to intervene, who duly spoke to the singer, as well as the alleged stalker, who was still in the street when they arrived.

One of Kylie's neighbours recalled warning the Aussie pop star about a, "weirdo guy [who] was lurking around."

The resident told The Sun he had been going, "door to door asking people where Kylie lived," and that they, "gave her a heads-up because it wasn’t normal behaviour.”

Police issued the man with a first-time formal warning last Wednesday afternoon, the paper added, but he was not arrested.

Deep Freeze Kills Eight In US & Town Called Hell FREEZES OVER

Eight people are dead after a blast of icy polar air brought  dangerously low temperatures to the US Midwest.

The polar vortex related deaths have been reported since Saturday in Michigan, Iowa, Indiana,  Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Temperatures have dropped as low as -35C, and even the town of Hell in Michigan has frozen over.

Even the South Pole in Antarctica is warmer, with an expected low of minus -31C with wind chill.

In Detroit on Wednesday, a 70-year-old man was found dead on a residential street, a police spokeswoman said.

About 15 miles south in Ecorse, a former city councilman in his 70s and dressed only in sleepwear was also found dead the same day.

And the body of a University of Iowa student was found outside a campus building yesterday.

The death of Gerald Belz, a pre-med student, was believed to be weather-related.

Illinois State Police officers rescued 21 people stranded in a charter bus that broke down in sub-zero temperatures after the vehicle's diesel fuel turned to gel in its engine.

More than a thousand flights, close to two-thirds of those scheduled, were canceled on Wednesday in or out of Chicago O'Hare and Chicago Midway international airports.

Amtrak canceled all trains in and out of the city too.

School classes were canceled for Wednesday and Thursday for students across the Midwest as police warned of the risk of accidents on icy highways.
