BREAKING: Fulani herdsmen murder kidnapped policeman in Benue, vital organs removed

Police Arrest Biafra Agitators In Jewish Synagogue

Police have arrested and subsequently paraded some Biafra activists in Aba, Abia State. It was gathered that about seven Biafra activists were arrested in a Jewish synagogue in Aba during a prayer meeting.

A Police source said the men were holding “illegal meeting,” an allegation which the men refuted, saying they were only praying in the synagogue before they were arrested.

Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, had, while parading the suspects on Monday in Umuahia, said they were arrested with IPOB and Biafra insignia, arguing that IPOB remains an outlawed terrorist organisation.

He said IPOB members had devised new strategy to further their agitation for Biafra by joining the same religious group of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and using their synagogue as a clandestine meeting place.

Asked why Police also paraded some members of Biafra Independent Movement since the organisation is not proscribed, Ogbizi said if they did something contrary to the law, they would also be arrested.

He said the police would not allow any part of Abia to be used as a “breeding ground for terrorists.”

But irked by the development, Ohanaeze Youth Council has called for the immediate release of the Biafra agitators, insisting they have committed no offence to be paraded as criminals.

National President of OYC, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said Police had no moral justification to arrest peaceful agitators seeking self determination, whereas armed herdsmen have continued in their killing spree unchecked.

Isiguzoro urged the security agencies to go after “murderous herdsmen” who are “known terrorists committing genocide across Nigeria,” instead of dissipating energy on non violent agitators.

He called on the Inspector General of Police , Ibrahim Idris, to order the immediate release of the arrested Biafra activists so as not to create “unnecessary tension” in South East again.

Fake Indian Doctor infects 33 People With HIV

At least 33 people have tested positive for HIV in the northern Indian town of Bangarmau after an unqualified medical practitioner injected some of them with an infected syringe, a government official said.

The 33 were confirmed from among 566 people tested at government-organised HIV screening camps on January 24, 25 and 27, according to SP Choudhary, chief medical officer of Unnao district, which includes Bangarmau.

The camps were set up after several suspected HIV cases showed up during routine tests at the district hospitals in Bangarmau late last year, he added.

'We ask HIV patients various things to know the source of infection,' Choudhary said. 'When we asked these patients whether they had used common syringes, some of them told us about a doctor they went to who uses the same syringe on all his patients.'

Arun Pratap Singh, a Bangarmau police official, said an investigative file had been opened against the suspect doctor identified as Rajendra Kumar. Singh said Kumar had gone into hiding and police were searching for him.

He said the doctor could be charged with carrying out a negligent act likely to spread infection of diseases, voluntarily causing grievous harm by using dangerous weapons or means, and practising medicine without having registration as a medical practitioner with the state government.

Herdsmen Killings: Police Fires Back At Benue Governor, Calls Him A Drowning Man

The face-off between the Nigerian police and Benue state government took a new twist Tuesday as the public relations officer of the force, Jimoh Moshood, described Governor Samuel Ortom as a “drowning man”.

Mr. Moshood said this on a breakfast television program, Sunrise Daily, aired on Channels Television.

“We don’t join issues with a drowning man, Governor Ortom is a drowning man,” he said when asked to comment on the governor’s recent statement.

When asked by the presenter to withdraw the statement, he insisted he would not.

“I will not withdraw for the purpose of this discussion because he called my IGP incompetent,” the spokesman said.

The Benue governor had in a statement urged the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to resign over his handling of the killings in his state by suspected herdsmen.

The governor said Mr. Idris  as incompetent, and had taken side with the killer herdsmen.

He said this in reaction to a comment by the police chief that the killings in Benue was instigated by the state’s new anti-open grazing law.

APC’s report on restructuring a ruse – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the report of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on restructuring, describing it as a ruse and fresh attempt to beguile Nigerians with another round of lies, empty proposals and hollow promises ahead of the 2019 elections.

Saying that it is a recast of APC’s deceptive stunts in the run up to the 2015 general elections, the PDP also said the report is another calculated ploy by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to divert public attention from the woes of a worsening economy, unrelenting killings, corruption and the endless litany of afflictions occasioned by ruling party’s dysfunctional governance.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it amounted to outright depravity that the same APC leaders who at assumption of office, rejected restructuring would now suddenly turn around to pose as fathers of a restructured Nigeria simply because the 2019 general elections beckon.

It noted that the attitude and body language of APC leaders, including President Buhari, indicated that they have no intention of implementing any form of restructuring.

The PDP recalled that President Buhari had in his 2018 New Year address to the nation, rejected the idea of restructuring when he declared that “when all the aggregates of nationwide opinions are considered, my firm view is that our problems are more to do with process than structure.”

The opposition party also recalled that Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who chaired the APC Restructuring Committee, had vehemently denied reports that the ruling party ever promised restructuring.

It cited a June 29, 2017 interview that El Rufai granted Channel Television where he described Nigerians who were clamouring for restructuring as “political opportunists and irresponsible people.”

“This is in addition to a declaration by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who in a Radio Nigeria (FRCN) interview programme on June 9, 2017, stated that restructuring is not President Buhari’s priority.

“From Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who was quoted to have said “to hell with restructuring,” to the totality of APC leaders, none believed in either true federalism or restructuring by any name called.

“As a matter of fact, it is instructive to note that the APC refused to rally its members in the National Assembly to support or vote for any amendment that dwelt on restructuring when the federal legislature voted on sections of the constitution where amendments had been proposed in the direction of restructuring.

“If anything, APC leaders have consistently criticised any amendment that spoke or had a semblance of restructuring or true federalism.

“It is therefore deceptive that in the wake of their rejection by the people, the discredited APC and its dysfunctional government have suddenly woken up to parade as champions of a restructured Nigeria. This is a callous and wicked attempt to once again take Nigerians on a trip to the land of fantasy,” the statement added.

The PDP urged Nigerians to reject what it described as the new ploy by the APC to deceive them for their votes in 2019.
