Kidnapped Boys Found In Reverend Sister’s Orphanage Home [Photo]

A 44-year-old Reverend Sister Chime Geraldine has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, for allegedly trafficking two young boys who were kidnapped between January and April 2017.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the Revered Sister, who was attached to the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja and operated an orphanage home known as Oblek Foundation Orphanage Home, at Gwagalada Abuja, was arrested alongside her 35-years-old accomplice, Obie Okoro, who was said to be a member of a kidnap syndicate and supplied the kidnapped young boys to the Reverend sister.

Sources disclosed that the IRT, led by ACP Abba Kyari, delved into the matter when it received an intelligence report about the syndicate which specialized in kidnapping children from churches across the South Eastern Part of the country and would then sell them to the Reverend sister for N500,000, who would in turn resell them to people who were in need of children.


Following the information, Saturday Vanguard gathered that Okoro was trailed to Lagos by the IRT operatives, where she was arrested and interrogated. She was said to have confessed that she sold two young boys who were between the ages of 6 and 7 years to the Revered sister, and that the children were kidnapped from their churches in Norkwa and Nnewi area of Anambra State by the son of their pastor identified as Nnana.

Following her confessions, the operatives took Okoro to the Gwagalada home of the Revered sister where one of the kidnapped young boys, Daberechi Ameke, was rescued while the sister was arrested. She also led the operatives to Monkey Village area of Lagos, where the other boy, Chinnonso Eze was rescued.

Parents of the victims, James Eze and Veronica Ameke, told Vanguard that they were members of the Assembly of God Church in Anambra State and their children were kidnapped by their pastor’s son.

Ameke told Vanguard that her 6-year-old son was kidnapped on April 28, 2017, during a vigil at the Nokwa branch of the Church while Eze said his 7-year-old son was kidnapped on January 9, 2017.

According to Ameke: “I took Daberechi to a vigil in my church, the Assembly of God Church, at Nnokwa in Idemili Local Government. I started looking for him around 8 pm before the commencement of the vigil but we didn’t see him. We also went to Nnobi police station to report the incident We searched for him everywhere but could not find him and we kept on praying. I have five children, Deberechi was my last child. Then, on September 29, 2017, the police in Awka arrested some people who specialized in kidnapping children and when they were interrogated they confessed and they identified the son of my pastor known as Nnana as their leader. He escaped after his gang members were apprehended while the police went after his father. Happily, I received a call from one of my church members that Deberechi had been found by the police in Abuja and I came to receive him from the police. My son told me that it was the pastor’s son who took him out from the church and handed him over to someone who he didn’t know who then brought him to Abuja.”

Meanwhile, when Vanguard interviewed Reverend Sister Geraldine and her accomplice, she denied knowing that the young boys who were bought to her were kidnapped. She explained that the woman who brought the boys deceived her that the children had no parents and they were from an orphanage home in the South East and that the money she paid for them was the amount demanded by the operator of that orphanage.

As at 12.30pm, when our source called at polling unit 001, Civic Centre, Ward 1, Umuchu, where the governorship candidate of the Ezeemo, is registered to vote, voting materials had not arrived and there was no INEC official on ground.

It was also observed voting to have started at the next polling unit.

He expressed frustration over this development, saying it is a deliberate attempt to deny his supporters the opportunity to vote.

He said: ”I am not desperate to be governor, but I’m worried about way we are treating ourselves. I’m worried about this nation. The ruling class wants to impoverish this nation.

‘Black people are not naturally like. They are treating our people as if they are idiots. It is a vicious cycle, in my life time I don’t see anything happening in our country. I will wait until 2pm, if they don’t show up, I will go home.”

US pledges to ensure free, fair election in Ekiti

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington has assured that his country will work with all stakeholders in order to ensure that July 14, 2018 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State is free, fair and credible. This was also as he commended the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on laudable infrastructural development in the state.


Symington, who visited governor Fayose alongside his aide, Mima Torres, and was received with pomp at the Ayoba House in the governor office, said he was impressed with the patriotic zeal of Nigerians, saying: “Nigerians are proud to be Nigerians, when you ask them what they love most about their country, they would say it is our resilience, energy, diversity, unity and friendliness.”

The U.S envoy who told governor Fayose that his three years in office has been keenly observed by the U.S, said the infrastructural development strides of the governor is commendable.

Stating the purpose for his visit to the state, Symington said: “We are in Ekiti because we believe in Nigeria, every state, every corner matters. We have seen what you have done in the last three years, it is very commendable.

Our concern in U.S is that we want to see leaders who care about others and not themselves. We also understand that you have presidential ambition and wish to know your programme for the country.”

Symington also urged Fayose to ensure support for Ekiti women who are interested in Agriculture. He stressed on the need for free, fair and credible elections , and promised that the U.S will ensure that subsequent elections in Nigeria, particularly in Anambra and Ekiti States are free, fair and credible.

” The U.S will work with other stakeholders to ensure that elections are free, fair and credible in Nigeria. We believe that we must have elections where people will be ready and willing to participate in, that is, a peaceful and orderly election, “Symington said.

Responding, Governor Fayose reminded the U.S envoy of his letter which described the June 21, 2014 governorship election that produced him as free, fair and credible and a template for 2015 general elections.
He said the major problem retarding the growth of the country was poor attitude by the people and the insincerity of leaders.

He decried a situation where those claiming to be fighting corruption do so with some people being their targets.

He recalled that despite many allegations and petitions against the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, he has not been investigated or charged to court because he is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress. He also decried the various intimidation, harassment and illegal detention of Ekiti government officials by the federal government agents.

“Our greatest challenge is not corruption but insincerity of leaders. Those claiming to fight corruption are not sincere. Without justice, we can’t move forward. There must be equity in the way we do things. Being selective in the fight against corruption will not take us anywhere.

On his presidential ambition, Fayose assured the U.S envoy that he is eminently qualified to rule the nation: “I have the required experience to lead this country. I have worked with the presidents we have elected into office in this country and am able to manage the economy of my state despite lean resources. In the US and the UK they ask you your experience when seeking for a job not your paper qualifications. I have managed a poor economy in my state and that shows my ability to deliver,” he said.

On the coming governorship election in the state, Fayose said the opposition would not be able to win 10 out of the 177 wards in the state. He urged the U.S to ensure the Nigerian government allows a free and fair election. He assured that his government and party would play the game with fairness.

“We are in firm control and the people are in our support. We just want to appeal to America and the international community to keep an eye on the poll. We don’t want INEC to come to our state with preloaded card readers or manipulate the process. We are sure to repeat the victory of 2014 when we won on all local government areas,” he stated.

The governor also urged the U.S envoy to give special consideration to Ekiti indigenes who are awarded government scholarship for studies and training in the U.S, saying denying them visas on grounds that they may not return isn’t helping the situation. He assured U.S that all indigenes whose traveling is okayed by his government are well behaved people.
