Too Late For Nigeria To Disintegrate, Says Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said it is too late for Nigeria to break up, calling for dialogue to resolve various agitations in the country.

Fayose said this while reacting to Wednesday’s meeting the governors of the South-East states had with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the meeting had provided a veritable platform, which all Igbo must key into otherwise they would remain guinea pig in Nigeria.

The governor, who appealed to the Federal Government to allow political solutions to agitations by Nigerians as against the use of brute force said, he remained “committed to the call for full and total restructuring of Nigeria through dialogue and negotiation because it is too late for Nigeria to disintegrate.”


According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said he was “particularly glad that South-East governors have come to the realisation that they cannot ignore their own in times like this as agitation is normal and must not be ignored, although the approach should be handled with caution.”

Fayose blamed the actions and utterances of President Muhammadu Buhari for the agitations going on in the country.

“The father figure of this country is President Buhari and if his language does not represent unity, there will be agitations like we are witnessing now.

“A father figure rallies even the bad boys in his house. The utterances and actions of Buhari when he became President were against the unity of this country.

“How can a president say that he will only attend to the needs of those who gave him 97 per cent vote and neglect others who didn’t vote for him?

“For Nigeria to move forward and in unity; there must be no sectionalism, there must be no oppression and there must be justice and equity.”

The governor commended the northern leaders for standing up to ensure that the Arewa youths’ quit notice against the Igbo in the North was resolved and withdrawn without necessarily arresting and detaining anyone.

Saying that the same could be achieved by the Igbo leaders, he warned that arresting or re-arresting Kanu “may be counter-productive as it may be perceived as vilification of the entire South-East geopolitical zone, not necessarily Kanu as a person.”

Corrupt Nigerians worse than armed robbers – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said that corrupt Nigerians are worse than armed robbers, also declaring that slow judicial system occasioned by tactics of defence lawyers and interlocutory appeals were the major obstacles militating against efforts of the commission in the fight against corruption.

Deputy Head of Ibadan Zonal office of EFCC, Mr. Kazeem Oseni made this declaration on Sunday at the 13th Biennial Conference of Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA), Ibadan chapter themed “Fight Against Corruption: Where are the religious leaders and institutions?

Oseni who spoke on the topic “Corruption in Nigeria: An overview and the efforts of the EFCC in fighting the scourge” maintained that though concerted efforts have been made to rid the country of corruption since the establishment of the commission, the enabling and operating environment in Nigeria are not encouraging to realize the objectives of the commission.

He said, “Quite frankly, the enabling and operating environment in Nigeria vis-a-vis anti-corruption war, has not been very encouraging.
“Issues such as legal technicalities, lack of cooperation from some states and local governments, public attitude towards corruption, the phenomenon of corruption mentality in Nigeria; as well as slow judicial system occasioned by tactics of defence lawyers and interlocutory appeals, seriously undermine the commission’s efforts in taming corruption.

Oseni who however said contrary to insinuations that the commission has not live up to its expectations, informed that the commission was only working hard to ensure that cases are prosecuted to the logical conclusion saying that most of the cases people may perceived as die a natural deaths are still being investigated.

He said that it will be very difficult for cases in the EFCC to die except it is concluded.

“It is very, very difficult for the EFCC case to die expect it is concluded, if you see a case, maybe investigation is still ongoing”.

Oseni while describing corruption as one of the obstacles confronting the progress of the country which is on daily basis recorded, said that the commission in its efforts to decongest the Lagos office and expand its scope established the Ibadan office in order to take care of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and part of Kwara states.

“Now we are in Ibadan, we used to be in Lagos which is taking care of the whole of South West, now Ibadan is taking care of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and part of Kwara state. Even in Ibadan that is far from the seat of power in Abuja, cases of corruption are recorded on daily basis. In the academic, it encourages mediocrity over meritocrity.
“Those who are corrupt are worse than armed robbers, you see armed robbers, you can fight them but these people, you will not know that they have collected your money. They can kill, in fact, some of them kill before they get the money.
“Since when Ibadan Zonal Office started operation, 3 Vice Chancellors are already in EFCC, you can see that even in the academic, we want to try as much as possible to make sure things does not go beyond that”.
“However, the commission’s response to this is to enhance the capacities of her operatives. Exposures to the requisite skills are constantly and regularly encouraged so that our investigation can be water tight and in conformity with the international best practices. I can say unequivocally that our cases are diligently investigated before going to court so as to ensure fair trail and corresponding judgment”.
“Socio-culturally, we engage and interface regularly with the public through town hall meetings and use every availing platform to discourage the get-rich-quick syndrome and flamboyant living.
“In conclusion, all hand must be on the deck to ensure we succeed in the fight against corruption. We consider everybody a stakeholder, as the EFCC does not have monopoly of knowledge to defeat all shade of graft. We all have a role to play as an individual and it is when we all change our attitude that we can see it reflected in the society. No doubt, all stakeholders and functional institutions are crucial in the maintenance of a high quality of moral values within the social system and the success or failure of our fight against corruption will depend on our willingness to take the fight through an ethical path”.

The Guest Speaker, Professor Abdul-Afis Oladosu of Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan while speaking however declared that entrusting most spiritual and morally qualified people in positions of authority was capable of reducing corruption to the barest minimum in the country.

Oladosu while delivering a paper titled “Combating Corruption- Role of Religious Leaders” remarked that failure to appoint right people in position of authority risk socio-economic and political anomie.

He informed that efforts must be made to tighten the control of religious leaders by the politicians.

“Whenever we check religion as a factor for corruption in the world today, we are actually indulging in an odious conflation of the spirit.
“We forget factors such as ignorance of the majority of adherence of the various religions and wrong interpretation of the religion text by a coterie of incompetent scholars most of whom are usually authoritarian in their approach to religious texts.
“We forget factor of greed and materialism, it is the combination of these factors that has turn places where religion could be found.
“Politicians engage in material corruption and religious leader engage in spiritual corruption. Politicians steal from the nation purse why religious leaders steal from God’s purse”.

He said that any discussion of the role of religious leaders in combating corruption must begin with the monitoring of the attitude of any person to be put in position of authority.

“Knowledge of evil and refusal to combat it is double punishment”.

The event featured inauguration of a new executive that will pilot the affairs of the association for a period of two years.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman, UNIFEMGA, Ibadan Chapter, Mr. Munir Ademola remarked that the topic was selected based on the effort of President Buhari led-administration in fighting corruption.

Ademola said that corruption was equally fighting back from every angle in Nigeria.

Tanzania charges 32 people with killing, burning five 'witches'

A Tanzanian court has charged 32 people with murder after five women suspected of witchcraft were beaten to death, and their corpses burned, in a move which could help to deter such killings.

It is the first time a mob has been charged with witch killings, said Athanasia Soka, chairwoman of the Tanzania Women Lawyers Association, although hundreds of suspected witches are murdered in the east African country each year.


The suspects, among them the leader of a local militia, are accused of killing the women in Tanzania’s western Tabora region on July 25, state attorney Melito Ukongoji told a magistrates court on Monday.

Most of the women were beaten to death before being burned, a police spokesman told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Tanzanians’ belief in witchcraft dates back centuries as a way of explaining common misfortunes like death, failed harvests and infertility, although this is often a smokescreen for other disputes, such as over land.

Thousands of elderly Tanzanian women have been strangled, knived to death and burned or buried alive over the last two decades after being denounced as witches.

Women with red eyes are often accused of being witches.

The suspects did not enter any pleas because the court does not have the jurisdiction to preside over murder cases.

They were remanded in jail until Sept. 4, when the case will move to a higher court.

Almost 500 people were killed by mob justice in the first six months of 2017, many of them women accused of witchcraft, Tanzania’s Legal and Human Rights Centre said.

Most of the murders took place in the large city of Dar es Salaam and in the southern highlands where superstitions are strongly held, it said.

22-year old sells her 3-months old baby for N50,000

A 22-year-old mother, Blessing Udoh, has been arrested by the police for allegedly selling her three-month-old baby for N50,000.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled on Friday in Lagos, that she must be remanded in police custody pending her bail application.

Police Prosecutor, Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 30, 2017 at 6.00p.m. in Abattoir area of Oko-Oba in Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb. Udon allegedly sold her baby  Destiny, to Mr. and Mrs. Philip James, who reside at Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

“The accused has been caught several times engaging in commercial sex,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravene sections 142 and 276 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The case has been adjourned till August 23 for hearing of the bail application.

'Two weeks after we found out, I played the Australian Open,' she recalled. 'I told Alexis it has to be a girl because there I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way.'

Serena famously won her 23rd Grand Slam at the Australian Open while pregnant, but she has since temporarily retired from competitive tennis to focus on her pregnancy.

Anambra lawyers report Nnamdi Kanu to UN, US, AGF, others

Following calls by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for boycott of elections in Anambra State, 

a group of lawyers in the state have petitioned the United Nations, United States, Nigeria Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), among others.

The lawyers, under the aegis of Anambra State Lawyers in Defence of Democracy (ASLAD), urged the AGF to ensure the commencement of a “high-powered clinical investigation” on the Nnamdi Kanu-led IPOB.

They condemned comments by Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB concerning the election and urged the AGF to use instrument and powers of the Nigerian State under his office to deal with IPOB.

Their petition reads: “The IPOB have taken a position that they would ‘boycott’ the forthcoming Anambra 2017 elections. We do not have any problem with them on this position.

“However, our challenge with IPOB is their seeming inability to appreciate the meaning of the word ‘boycott’ as it relates to Anambra election.

“We are worried that their mode of propagating their ‘No referendum, no election’ mantra suggests that the word ‘boycott’ has another meaning assigned to it in their own dictionary which is ‘disruption’ of all legitimate activities of government and electioneering activities calculated at striking terror in the minds of the citizens who have made up their mind to discharge their civic duty on the 18th day of November, 2017.

“Sir, the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB are always quick to raise the green banner of ‘non-violence’ and take refuge under its canopied ambience whereas their official dissemination channel, Radio Biafra, is a flowing river of hate-speeches, incitement to violence and war.

“Hate speech leads to war and war leads to deaths and, therefore, IPOB preaches violence. In the South-East (especially in Onitsha which is our commercial nerve centre), the IPOB miscreants extort money from traders after intimidating them.

“IPOB hoodlums illegally mount roadblocks to force other citizens to buy their Biafra flags and insignia not minding whether such citizens subscribe to their separatist ideology or whether such citizens have the money to pay for the said flags. They harass citizens and threaten them with violence.”

The lawyers said that IPOB members intimidate and close shops of marketers in Onitsha and that “IPOB street urchins have on two remarkable occasions disrupted campaigns rallies and have most infamously invaded and desecrated St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State where the Governor was to worship [with their chants of no referendum, no election]. Indeed, they have a rich history of mischief.”

The group’s petition was copied to the United Nations Mission in Nigeria, Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, The European Union Mission to Nigeria, National Human Rights Commission, The Inspector-General of Police, The Defence Headquarters.

Others copied are The Director-General, Department of State Services, The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Federal House of Representatives, South-East Governors’ Forum and Anambra Council of Traditional Rulers.

ASUP warns FG of impending strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has thrown its weight behind Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

In a statement by ASUP Secretary General, Anderson Ezeibe, the union noted that the strike was aimed at restoring sanity to Nigerian universities.

The union also called on the Federal Government to commence the implementation of agreements entered into with ASUP to forestall an impending crisis in polytechnics.

ASUP added that it was concerned about the consequences of the strike on students, parents and society at large.

It said, “ASUP notes the renewal of hostilities on the country’s university campuses between ASUU and government of Nigeria.

“While we are in unconditional solidarity with ASUU in this struggle to restore sanity to Nigerian universities, we are calling on the government to commence without further delay the implementation of agreements entered into with ASUP to forestall an impending crisis in the polytechnic sub-sector.”

Ozubulu: Police invite assailants’ alleged target, ‘Bishop’

The Anambra State Police Command has invited Aloysius Ikegwuonu aka Bishop over the Ozubulu tragedy.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Anambra State, Nkiru Nwode, confirmed on Tuesday that Bishop, is expected to appear at the police headquarters in Awka on Friday.

The spokesman, however, clarified that the invitation is not an arrest.

Ikegwuonu was the target of attack on St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwa Ozubulu, penultimate Sunday.

His father was among the 13 people who lost their lives during the attack that left 30 people wounded.

Ikegwuonu, who left the state before the attack on the church he built for his community, returned last Saturday.

He attended the first Mass at St Philip’s on Sunday which saw the reopening of the worship centre.

Patients stage protest against alleged robbery and rape in Edo central hospital.

Patients at the Edo Central Hospital in Benin and their caregivers on Tuesday staged a protest against alleged robbery and rape in the hospital.

The protesters appealed to the government and management of the institution to ensure the safety of their lives and property.

The victims lamented that the hospital lacked security, especially in the night.

They said armed robbers occasionally stormed the premises, snatched their money, other belongings and raped them.

They recalled that just last week, some bandits invaded the gynaecology ward robbed and raped the patients.

The protesters stated that the incident lasted for several hours.

Reacting, David Osifor, the state commissioner for health, said the incident that occurred at the hospital was a case of theft, rather than robbery and rape.

“It happened in the female ward; it was not really an armed robbery case, it was just a minor scare and we are handling the matter.

“It is also not true that patients on admission were being raped as being speculated”, The Cable quoted him as saying.

He added that police had commenced an investigation into the incident and promised adequate security measures for the hospital.

Reno Omokri blasts Shehu Garba: Jonathan built the only federal university in Buhari’s State

Reno Omokri, a former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has lambasted Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media, for saying no capital project was completed under Jonathan.

He stated that the only federal university in Katsina state was built by the last administration.

Federal University Dutsin, Katsina, is one of the nine universities which Jonathan established in February 2011.

In a statement on Tuesday, Omokri said Shehu’s claim “further exposes his intellectual laziness and failing memory”.

“It is quite sad that Garba Shehu does not know that oil constitutes only 15 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP and thus a fall in the price of oil should not lead to a collapse of the Nigerian economy as has been experienced under President Buhari.
“If Garba and his boss are willing to learn, the Jonathan Foundation and the Peoples Democratic Party can arrange a course for them to be tutored on the subject-how to grow your economy to be the largest in Africa. We make bold that we are experienced in that area.

“Obviously Garba Shehu has forgotten that when his boss was commissioning the Abuja-Kaduna 187KM fast railway that enables Nigerians work in Abuja and live in Kaduna, he was forced to admit that the project was conceived, built and completed by the Jonathan administration.
“At that event, President Muhammadu Buhari said about the $1.5 billion project and I quote ‘This project was conceived by a previous administration, started by the last government.’ My question to Mr. Shehu is this-who is a liar between him and his boss?

“I also urge Garba Shehu to take note of the fact that the only Federal University in his boss’s home state of Katsina was built by the Jonathan administration in addition to 13 other universities and 165 Almajiri schools built all over Nigeria. For people who don’t value education, I am not surprised that they see this as “nothing to show!”

Reacting to Shehu’s claims that 21 states owed salaries during the previous regime, Omokri asked if the presidential aide does not know that Nigeria is a federation and as such, the federal government cannot control the states.

“No wonder they are against restructuring and want to throw the report of the 2014 National Conference into the dustbin.
“Mr. Garba Shehu would do well to remember that his boss promised Nigerians 3 million jobs every year. Rather, according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, 4.58 million jobs, created by the Jonathan led PDP administration, were lost in his boss’s first year,” he continued.

Omokri said the Jonathan administration revived the “moribund” Nigerian Railways Corporation, adding that it is “laughable” for Shehu to cite the fight against corruption and the terror war as major achievements of the Buhari administration.

On the claim that Boko Haram has been “technically defeated,” he asked: “How can a defeated Boko Haram now have the ability to kidnap policewomen and oil explorers? How can a defeated Boko Haram attack military formations? How can a defeated Boko Haram carry out more suicide bombings in the last eight months than at any other time in Nigeria’s history?

“Garba Shehu can continue living in his fool’s paradise but he should give Nigerians more credit than to issue the pathetic tissue of lies that he called a response to former President Jonathan’s comments at this past weekend’s non elective Congress of the PDP.
“The time for propaganda is long gone. Anybody who wants to differ should speak to those issues raised, and not boasts about accomplishments that are not visible. The succeeding administration has been on the saddle for more than half of its four-year tenure.”

Former spokesman of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Reuben Abati, has decried the visits to President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his latest article, ‘Buhari’s reunion with his media team’, Abati said while the visits may be part of the doctors’ therapy, “it is ridiculous and insensitive that government officials are now visiting the President in medical exile, with some of them posing for photo-ops with their children.
“Our President should not be turned into a tourist attraction and the Abuja House in London should not become a museum.”

Abati said he was excited at the media team’s visit to Buhari him in London, adding that he felt sorry for them for not having adequate access to Buhari.

“I had always felt that the exclusion of the media team from the London medical vacation and the various visits practically undermined the Presidential media office, and created the space for the mismanagement of the communication process around and about the President’s illness.
“I could never have imagined my own boss in our time, travelling without me or shutting me out of any important event. He took my team everywhere. I thought it was wrong to have kept President Buhari’s team out of the London trips.
“The core team should have been there all the time to take photographs, issue statements, if needed, organize video recordings, liaise with local journalists, and manage “inconvenient” journalism and public perception. But what did we have?
“The various pictures taken of the President until the visit by his media team, looked like photos taken by quacks. The President was presented as if he was a statue, or at best, as a sick man propped up for photographic effect. Nobody even paid attention to his wardrobe.
“Whoever was behind that newspaper vendor style of journalism did the President a disservice. The real damage was that Nigerians did not believe the official narrative, they concluded that the pictures were photo-shopped or that they were old pictures and that there was an attempt to hoodwink the public.
“But the game changed the day Bayo Omoboriowo accompanied seven governors to London to see the President. With five pictures, the President’s official photographer showed him in better light. The photographs presented him as a living being.”

Scores killed as Boko Haram hits Borno

Reports reaching Nigerian Eye from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have it that suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers have killed at least 27 people and wounded 83 in a new attack.

Reuters reports that the attack happened on Tuesday.

A woman bomber reportedly blew up herself and killed 27 others at a market in Konduga, a village near Maiduguri.

This is coming barely five hours after the launching of the special force, mobile strike teams by the theatre commander operations Lafiya Dole, with directives to track down Boko Haram spiritual leader, Abubakar Shekau.

The attack by suicide bombers on Mandarari town of Konduga Local Government Area at about 5:50 pm was the third in series within the month of August, 2017.

Although details of the attack were still sketchy, a member of the civilian JTF, who identified himself as Aminu Sani said in Maiduguri that the number of casualties was not certain.

He, however, said dozens were feared killed in the attack.

“Our people from Konduga and those who left from here with soldiers are yet to return.

“The National Emergency Management Agency and State Emergency Management Agency have also sent their staff to the area. I believe by tomorrow we should be able to know the number,” Aminu said.

According to him, “the attack occurred at a motor park, and today is the market day, which means several people were affected.”

The army and the police are yet to make statement to this effect as of the time of this report.

Restructuring alone will not solve Nigeria’s problem – Oby Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has said the fundamental problem facing the country is not as a result of its political structure but the failure of the ruling elite to deliver good governance to the people.

She stated this when she spoke at the Big Ideas Podium organised by the African Heritage Institution, with the theme ‘Nigeria: The Economics of Failure’ in Enugu.

According to her, the country needed policies to address the economic inequalities, insisting that the problem with the country was not technical but ‘governance failure.’

The former Minister said: “The obsession with politics is a diversionary strategy of the ruling class every time which favours the rapacious elite to distract the suffering mass with politics.
“Nigeria presently is not sustainable. Something radically different must happen.
“Political restructuring will not solve our problems because the content will remain the same and the outcome this time around will be disastrous. We need economic governance as the basis for any political grouping the country may need.
“For Nigeria to survive, it must overthrow the existing order especially the 57-year-old political class and entrenched pattern. We need world class human capital not a nation of global trolls.
“We can’t continue to allow a few people who have hijacked our government to decide our fate, the citizens must rise to disrupt the status quo. A well constituted non-partisan group of intellectuals must help Nigeria fight this war because it cannot be a war fought without knowledge.
“We need a conversation of economic structure, inequality and governance that comes from the people. It’s time to interrogate the dreams of the founding fathers, we must think differently.
“How long will it take for Nigeria to lift 100 million out of poverty when China used only 30 years to lift 700 million out of poverty. Its time for the citizens to organise a collective action that can produce results. Today, our literacy level is still 59 per cent while Rwanda has progressed to 72 per cent within two decades since the genocide.
“It is time for the long suffering citizens to awake to the productivity they have and take their proper place in governance.
“We therefore both fight the economic war now and win it or our people will perish in large numbers regardless of their ethnicity and politics.”

Also speaking, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, said it had become imperative for the citizens to unite and rise against oppression.

“There has to be a radical change. The situation in Nigeria now, is either you get involved or you stop complaining. Good governance is not given, it is demanded and taken,” he said.

One of the discussants and INEC National Commissioner, Prof Okey Ibeanu said Nigeria and ordinary Nigerians have not failed insisting that it is rather the political class that has failed Nigerians.

“A major failing of the ruling class is their profound inability to respect rules. The quality of citizenship is also critical. The critical issue is about institutions not just about legislation but discipline. The character of politics remains a major challenge not politics itself,” he said.

He further disclosed that Election in Nigeria has become a huge project for the ruling class, noting that a whooping N120 billion and N110 billion were spent during the 2011 and 2015 general elections respectively, projecting that about N200 billion would be spent by 2019.

The rapper, 28, spoke about the incident in a new clip for his documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life, where he described how things took a turn for the worse after he came clean about his sexual past with a woman who once worked for him, even though he had previously told Rihanna they had never been romantically involved.

But Chris claims the confession is what made their relationship turn violent - and he says both parties dealt blows.

'She hated me.' he said. 'After that, I tried everything. She didn't care, she just didn't trust me after that. From there, it just went downhill because it would be fights, it would be verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides, it is the first time I get to say anything.'

'I still love Rihanna, but I'm just going to be honest - we would fight each other, she would hit me, I would hit her, but it never was OK. It was always a point to where we talk about it like, "What the f**k are we doing?"'

He added:'If I go on stage, I got a scratch on my face, and I've got to explain it, like "Oh I fell", or if you got a scar or a bruise, you got to put make up on.

'Sh*t, I'm not ever trying to put my hands on any female,' he said.

'I felt like a f**king monster,' he said in the clip.

The infamous night started after the woman Chris confessed about appearing at a Clive Davis party, where both he and Rihanna were attending.

He says he had asked the woman prior to the party to stop going to places he would be at.

'That changed my life,' he said as he looked back at the night.

'I made sure the person I was involved with before, I said hey, you can't come around to these places. And the person comes in, comes right to the table and says, "Hey what's up y'all." And I already know it's an issue, so I say "Hey cool" and I keep it moving.

'I look over at Rihanna and she's bawling, she's crying.'

Though things lightened up for the couple - Chris says they had a few drinks that night too - and later he offered her his cell phone for proof that he had no idea she would be there.

To his surprise, the woman had indeed texted him that she would be at the same party.

Rihanna was enraged to see the message, he says.

'She starts going off, she throws the phone, "I hate you!", whatever, whatever, she starts hitting me, we're in a little Lamborghini, you know she's fighting me.'

He says he pleaded with her that he was telling the truth.

But he says she continued to hit him.

'Like I remember she tried to kick me, just like her beating sh*t, but then I really hit her. With a closed fist, like I punched her, and it busted her lip, and when I saw it I was in shock, I was "f**k, why did I hit her like that?"

'So from there she's...spitting blood in my face, it raised me even more. It's a real fight in the car, and we driving in the street.

'I'm like "yo, we tripping, what the f**k, what are we doing?" She tried to grab for my phone, and I'm not giving her my phone, to throw it out the window.'

He says he pulled over in Hancock Park: 'I'm just trying to resolve the situation, I'm not trying to fight.'

'She takes the keys out of the car...and fakes it like she throws them out of the window,' he added.

'I get out the car and I'm looking for the keys and somebody yelled and she yells out her door, "Help, he’s trying to kill me."'

He says he attempted to find the keys, but she was sitting on them.

Chris ultimately plead guilty to one count of felony assault and served probation for the crime.

Rihanna has found it hard to move on from her first love, breaking in tears when quizzed about their volatile relationship on Oprah's Next Chapter in 2012.

She said: 'I lost my best friend - like everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that.

'So, I had to deal with that and that's not easy for me to understand, interpret and it's not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching.'

I will never play for Liverpool again! Coutinho tells Klopp

Liverpool midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, has told manager Jurgen Klopp, that he will never play for the club again.


The Brazil international submitted a transfer request last week and is not ready to change his stance, even if it costs him a place at next year’s World Cup.

Coutinho is desperate to quit Anfield and move to Barcelona, who have already seen two offers turned down.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Coutinho, who is currently sidelined with a back problem, has now told Klopp he will never play for the club again.

APC chieftains criticizing Jonathan’s achievement are liars, ignoramus, comedians

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has weighed in on the on-going war of words between Reno Omokri, the former Special Assistant on new media to Former President Goodluck Jonathan, and some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the performance of immediate past government of the federation.

Jonathan had during the non-elective National Convention of the PDP held in Abuja last Saturday recounted the Party’s achievement while he was in office.

Although his (Jonathan’s) speech drew the ire of the ruling APC and the Presidency, triggering a spate of backlash from both quarters, Omokri and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, have stood in his defense.

In a solidarity, the PDP in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, described the APC chieftains who lampooned Jonathan’s speech at the Party’s convention as liars and ignoramuses who have debased the art of governance and public commentary to comedy.

The statement reads in part: “we have read comments made by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Alhaji Bolaji Ojo-Abdullahi, Mallam Garba Shehu, Special Assistant to the President on Media, and other senior members of the Ruling Party such as former Governor, Segun Oni and Dr. Osita Okechukwu, the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria where they attempted to rubbish the comments made by former President Goodluck Jonathan that his Administration performed well during his term in office.

“It is our firm belief that these statements were borne out of ignorance, lacking in depth and are devoid of the Sort of critical thinking that one would expect from highly placed government officials.
“However, these officials seem bent on continuing what has become an official position of the Ruling Party to reduce commentary on public issues, and indeed the art of governance to comedy.

“It is shameful and embarrassing that having been in power for two and a half years, the Ruling Party is unable to point to cogent, convincing and data driven achievements.
“Instead, it has spent the bulk of its time designing and implementing a communication strategy around massive propaganda, half-truths and outright falsehood in an attempt to continually deceive the Nigerian people.”

No National Identity Number, No Citizenship, Says NIMC DG

Since the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, announced that the National Identity Number, NIN, has become a major pre-condition for citizenship and that enforcement of no NIN, no international passport, may be in force January 2018, many Nigerians have been spoiling for war. While some feel that such pronouncement has no basis at all, others argue that it was too hasty, considering the precarious nature of the Nigerian state at the moment and the heterogeneous population of the country.


The first salvo was fired by social commentator, Luke Onyekakeyah, who in an opinion article in a national newspaper, described the order as ‘lawless’.

He said that “an indication that from January 2018 anybody who does not have the National ID card will not be issued with Nigerian passport is misguided and uncalled for. It smacks of arrogance and impunity on the part of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The deadline is illegal…”

Part of Onyekakeya’s argument is that “whereas there is a law establishing both the National Identity Management Commission and Immigration, there is no law that says that obtaining passport is predicated on having the National ID card/number. It is, therefore, absolutely wrong for anybody to issue such lawless deadlines.” He said that such deadlines, from experience, promote corruption as it could lead some officials of the agencies concerned to capitalise on the situation to fleece Nigerians.

Apparently, Onyekakeya was speaking the minds of many Nigerians as those who spoke to Hi-Tech, felt that the ultimatum was unnecessary, considering that both the national identity and the international passport are all legal means of identification which should complement each other.

Mr. Monday Eluwa, a Lagos based Chartered accountant said: “Honestly, I do not see the need for that kind of pronouncement. It is unnecessary and will so draw up arguments that will not help the economy in any way. Both documents are valid means of identification, so why making one inferior to the other; because if you say that I can’t get this, if I don’t have the other, you have clearly told me which one is more important.

“I think what NIMC should do is to create more awareness on the exercise and as well design a strategy that will not only get Nigerians trooping to their centres for registration but also make it easier for them to register and have their numbers/cards instantly. Threats have never worked in Nigeria and can never ever work.”

Janet Edukpaye, an insurance broker based in Lagos said that NIMC should have been more tactful with the pronouncement, knowing that a lot of people are aggrieved over alleged inability of the commission to release the cards of many Nigerians who have registered for the exercise long time ago. His words; “My take is that NIMC was a bit careless in that pronouncement. They should have ensured that scores of people who have registered but have not received their cards are conveniently settled before coming up with a deadline. I just feel that it was an undue excitement over a perceived successful harmonisation that led the commission to commit the blunder. But we can also get it right; we are Nigerians, after all.”

Meanwhile an Enugu based civil engineer, Emeka Mgbo, saw the whole thing differently. “We make issues about everything. I believe that NIMC didn’t actually mean it the way Nigerians are taking it. We understand our people better, if you don’t put such restrictions and deadlines, no matter the strategy you apply, people will still feel reluctant to go and register.

“However, the commission also has some blames. For instance, I have not seen their centre in Enugu where I live and as I came to Lagos to buy materials I have approached a few of the centres, the queue I saw was frightening. They should try and decongest the centres and make the whole thing less cumbersome” he added. NIMC recently got the nod of federal Government to make the National Identity Number, NIN a major pre condition to becoming a citizen of Nigeria. What it means is that those who have not taken part in the NIMC registration exercise, are running the risk of not being recognised as Nigerian citizens.

In addition they may not be able to renew their driver’s licences, international passports and other important papers as government says it has concluded arrangement to begin enforcement soon.

Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Aliyu Aziz, had at a press conference in Lagos, warned that any Nigerian without the National Identification Number (NIN) issued by the commission runs the risk of being regarded as a non-Nigerian citizen.

He, however, revealed government’s willingness, to further enlighten citizens on the importance of enrolling to obtain the National Identification Number, after which it will begin enforcement immediately. He said that NIN fully confers on any citizen so enrolled, Nigerian citizenship. Aziz said: “It is the duty of every citizen to enrol and obtain his or her National Identification Number, which entitles one to be fully regarded as a Nigerian citizen. Without the NIN anyone’s claims of being a Nigerian citizen are doubtful; that is what the NIMC Act stipulates.”

NIMC may have considered the projections that Nigeria’s population may shot up astronomically between now and 2050 and decided to entrench a system that would make for easy identification of who the right citizens  are. But a lot of people are faulting the approach.

Benefits of NIN

Besides conferring full citizenship on a person, National Identity Number, NIN, also ensures one person one identity, enhances participation in the political process, is an important tool for fight against corruption and terrorism, enables citizens to exercise their rights and facilitates management of subsidies and safety net payments to Internal Displaced Persons.

Other benefits of the NIN are that it facilitates service delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies; enhances the work of Law Enforcement Agencies thereby providing public safety, policing, national security and border protection, helps launder Nigeria’s image, eliminates ghost and multiple identities and enhances ability of citizens to assert their identity.

The NIN also enhances access to credit from financial institutions, protects citizens from identity theft thereby being an antidote to identity theft driven frauds, it expands access to other financial services including insurance, it enhances e-commerce by providing a means of payment, it is a tool for non-repudiation and security for financial transactions and it facilitates financial inclusion and encourages cashless economy.

Formation of NIMC

NIMC was established by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007, as an offshoot of the Department of National Civic Registration (DNCR), to create, establish and maintain a Unique National Identity Database, register persons covered by the Act, assign a Unique National Identification Number (NIN), provide authentication platform for identity verification, issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) and harmonise and integrate existing identification databases in Nigeria.

So far, the commission says it has populated the National Identity Database, which currently boasts of about 18.5 million records, established up to 809 NIN enrolment centres nationwide, launched the new electronic National ID Card with multiple functions, achieved GVCP Certification and recertification of the NIMC Card Personalisation Bureau in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, as well as deploying backend Infrastructures like the ABIS, NIDB Storage, security network and data centres.

The commission also has commenced the enrolment of minors between the ages 0 – 16, even as it claims to have over 900 registration centres spread all over the nation. The centres are said to be cited in rural, urban, public institutions, banks, government agencies offices including NIS and all the 776 local government areas in Nigeria. NIMC says it does not just do online registration but also assists people whether they are literate or not.

Professor reveals benefits of early morning s3x

Prof. Musa Yakubu of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State says having s3x in the early morning lowers blood pressure and reduces risks of heart attack.

Yakubu said this in a paper: ‘Knocking Down the Barriers to Four O’Clock Activities and Reproductive Inadequacies’ presented at the 163rd Inaugural lecture of the university.

Yakubu said having sexual intercourse three to four times a week was good for love life.

“Research has shown that sex boosts immune system by stimulating the body’s first line of defence and production of immunoglobulin A (IgA), against cold and fever,” he said.

“Immunoglobulin A is one of the most common antibodies in the body system. Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight bacteria, viruses, and toxins.”

Yakubu said that sex also regulates menstruation in women by influencing the levels of lutenizing hormones that controls menstrual period and promote better sleep.

Sexual intercourse, the don explained, releases the feel-good chemical, known as oxytocin, which enhances closeness with one’s partner and makes people feel happier for a longer period of time.

“Lovemaking of about 20 minutes reduces 150 calories,” he said.

The professor of Biochemistry postulated that sex is the most powerful creative force given to human by God for pleasure and deep companionship.

Yakubu, however, noted that any marriage in which the man or woman could not enjoy sexual intercourse or satisfy their partner in bed was a dead marriage.

He said lack of sexual satisfaction had led to the collapse of many marriages in Nigeria, and urged couples to seek for solutions to the problem.

Former Chelsea player, Emmanuel Sarki, has revealed that manager Antonio Conte, treated John Obi Mikel “far worse” than Diego Costa.


Conte told Costa via a text message to look for a new club earlier in the summer.

But Sarki, who was with the Blues from 2006 to 2010, claims Mikel was ostracised just because he decided to go to the Olympics.

The Super Eagles captain eventually left Chelsea for Chinese team Tianjin Teda in January, having not made a single appearance under Conte.

DSP Majia decried the rising spate of rape cases in the state, saying that “since August 1, 34 cases were recorded, which in essence translates to an alarming situation if efforts are not multiplied against it.

“In the light of this ugly development, it is necessary for the Police to call on the general public, especially parents, guardians, teachers and other stakeholders, to take a firm stand on the general activities of their wards, who always turn out to be victims of such dastardly acts.


Cases of incest

“It is unimaginable to see a father taking advantage of his biological daughter in the absence of her mother. Such instances are where one Abubakar, aged 40, of Unguwa Uku quarters, Kano, was found to have raped his biological 14-year-old daughter, who survived three abortions.

“Also, one Ibrahim, 25, of Zangon Marikita quarters, was arrested for raping his cousin-sister several times.

“Pastor Samuel of Sabongari, Kano, was arrested for raping 13-year-old twin sisters and their 11-year-old sister. Also, one Haruna and Lawan both of Sheka Quarters, Kano, conspired and acted in an unnatural manner against their nine-year-old old male victim.

“All the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime.”

Driver bleeds to death on steering wheel in Anambra(Graphic)

 In a case which has baffled many, while driving a TRACAS bus from Ekwuluobia to Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Anambra state ,the driver suddenly started bleeding from his mouth and nose with mucus and foam dripping from his mouth. He eventually died while people watched.

Porn stars who filmed themselves having sex in a confessional box have been cleared of wrongdoing in Holland - because there are no blasphemy laws.
The grainy film was shot inside St Joseph Church and other areas of the Southern Dutch city of Tilburg earlier this year.
It was later published on an x-rated website owned by Dutch porn star Kim Holland sparking a complaint by the church board.

But to their dismay, the public prosecutor in the nearby city of Breda has now decided that the criminal complaint will be dismissed after ruling there had been 'no punishable offence',Daily Mail reports.

Kim Holland later took the clip offline and apologised to the church.

In the porn film, the church and the confession chair were used to secretly shoot scenes.
According to local media, chief public prosecutor Charles van der Voort explained to pastor Jan van Noorwegen and vice chairman Harrie de Swart of the church board in a personal talk last month that it was impossible to prosecute anyone in the case.
A spokeswoman from the public prosecutor's office said: 'While the recording is very offensive and shows little respect, there is no punishable offence.'

Former Edo Guber Aspirant Dumps PDP

Matthew lduoriyekemwen, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State and former governorship aspirant in the 2016 governorship election, has resigned his membership of the PDP.


Iduoriyekemwen, who was a member of the Alhaji Ali-Modu Sheriff faction, before the Supreme Court’s verdict which gave Ahmed Makarfi-led faction victory, announced his resignation from the party while addressing his supporters in Benin City on Tuesday.

He disclosed that he had tendered his resignation letter to the leadership of the party, both at the State and national level, adding that his next line of action would soon be made public.

“This decision has not been easy, but I have decided that it will be in the best interest for my political career, business and family. It is with nostalgia that I came to this decision which I believe will suit my political interest and those of my numerous supporters across the length and breadth of Edo State and beyond.

“To resign from a party that I participated in its formation in 1998 and remained a steadfast and loyal member and leader till my exit this day, I believe that the PDP which we formed years ago is no longer the PDP we have today, after it was hijacked by persons who run the party as their personal estate,” he said in his resignation letter.

Iduoriyekemwen, who was a former Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, later became the State’s representative in the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Though he did not disclose his next political move, it is being rumoured that the former governorship hopeful and his supporters may soon join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jonathan should crawl on his knees to beg Nigerians‎ – Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie has said ex-President Goodluck Jonathan should crawl on his knees across the country to apologise to Nigerians.

She said Jonathan should apologise to Nigerians because he “plundered” the nation’s economy while he was at the helm of affairs.

The presidential aide said the Jonathan administration was “fraught with broken promises”.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Onochie while quoting the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Osita Okechukwu, said Jonathan’s government only relied on “vodoo” economic records.

According to Onochie, Jonathan bequeathed a “dearth of infrastructures” to Buhari.

She wrote: “Ex-President Jonathan should be crawling on his knees from Otueke to Kaura Namoda, apologising for how he presided over the plundering of Nigeria.
“The government of ex-President Jonathan was fraught with broken promises, massive corruption and shattered dreams. It was a Govt for a few Nigerians.
“Massive oil earnings under Ex-President Jonathan did not benefit Nigerians as he bequeathed a dearth of infrastructures to President Buhari.
“We have not recovered from the news of the amount of cash and properties, recovered from Mrs Diezani Madueke, Jonathan’s Petroleum Minister.”

Ajimobi, Amosun, Akeredolu, Fayose Admonish New Corps Members

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and his counterparts in Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti states –  Ibikunle Amosun, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Ayodele Fayose, respectively, have called on corps members serving in their respective states to shun acts that will tarnish the image of the National Youth Service Corps.


The governors, who spoke in their various states during the 2017 Batch “A” Stream 11 orientation course advised the Corps members to be self reliant rather than depending on government alone to provide employment.

Speaking at the orientation course in Iseyin, Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Moses Adeyemo, urged the corps members to contribute positively to the socio-economic and political development of the state.

Speaking in the same vein, Governor Amosun,  pledged to assist the NYSC members interested in agriculture production with land and credit facility.

Amosun  was represented by Mr Afolabi Afuape, the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports  at the orientation course in Sagamu.

In his message to the corps members, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, urged them to be self reliant by keying into any Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development of Ondo state.

Akeredolu who was represented by the Secretary to Ondo State Government, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde, advised the corps members to shun all acts of corruption.

Also, governor Fayose in his message to the NYSC members, urged them to shun unholy acts capable of damaging the good image of scheme.

Fayose, who was represented by his Commissioner for Information, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the history of Nigeria since independence has clearly indicated the need for unity among the people.

Kwankwaso breaks silence on ‘decamping’ to PDP

A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso has debunked reports making the rounds that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside some lawmakers.

Kwankwaso, a member of the national Assembly, described the report as “malicious story” meant to tarnish his image.

Reports emerged yesterday that Rabiu Kwankwaso has dumped the All Progressives Congress,APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Kwankwaso’s chief of staff, Aminu Abdussalam, who spoke to newsmen on Tuesday, said the report was “totally unfounded.”

He said the senator and his supporters had not at any time thought of leaving the APC.

According to him, the Kano State government planted the story to cause disaffection among his supporters after the national leadership of the APC recognised the leadership of Umar Doguwa as the legitimate chairman of the party in the state.

According to him, “We have not at any time contemplated leaving the APC. We were surprised and deeply appalled when we read the story.

“The story was planted by Kano State government and some political opponents who are threatened by the mass followership Senator Kwankwaso enjoys nationwide.

“Kano State government was the one that planted the same story last year, and its agents are still the same characters spreading the false story.

“They are angry that the national leadership of our great party, the APC, has endorsed the Umar Doguwa-led chairmanship of the party in Kano and dismissed their sham congresses.”

Like Obasanjo, I Consulted Adeboye Before Becoming VP — Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo , yesterday, disclosed the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife, Dolapo, were the two persons he consulted before accepting to serve as the country’s Vice President in 2015.


The consultation, he disclosed tallied with that of the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who also sad that the highly revered man of God was among the three persons that were consulted before he accepted to join in the 1999 presidential election.

Osinbajo in his perspective of the man Adeoye: His life and calling at the public presentation of a book: Pastor E.A Adeboye: His Life and Calling said that because he was not a politician when the opportunity came, only two persons were in his mind to get their consent.

“And those two were my wife and Daddy G.O. Over the years, Daddy had been instrumental factor to my spiritual growth. Just like Baba Obasanjo, I consulted Daddy and gave the go-ahead to accept the VP position, before then, I was not a politician,” he said.

The acting president noted that RCCG was the only Church that has been able to pull the largest gathering at a convention in the world, saying; “Apart from Coca-cola, the Church is next in mileage across the world. And it all has to do with sincerity, dedication and humility of Daddy G.O.” Osinbajo disclosed.

Earlier, Obasanjo who was the chairman at the occasion, described Adeboye as a man who had touched more lives than the politicians in the country, adding that RCCG leader’s spiritual prowess personally influenced his life.

According to the former President, as a politician, we are supposed to touch lives, but, for Pastor Adeboye, he has touched more lives than politicians. He has been a man of God with a difference, whom I benefited from personally when I was consulting to contest the 1999 election.”

Wife of Pastor Adeboye,  Folu, said that the book being launched was  produced without the knowledge of her husband, “because it is part of the year of surprises we are going to be having.”

She acknowledged the role played by the 40 authors in ensuring that the publication was near perfect, “because only God can be perfect,” she said.

Adeboye in his contribution said that he must have been kept away from the programme for a purpose and that God did not reveal anything to him on it, because  if he was foretold, he would not have approved of it.

And the reason is simple, who should be celebrated? Me or the person who sent me on the message? Anyway, just like Baba (Obasanjo) had requested, I forgive you all,” Adeboye said.

PDP Crisis: S-West Faction Sues Makarfi, Obi, Others

The dissolved South West Zonal Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking an order for the nullification of the 75th  National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the PDP and the  adoption at the special non-elective National Convention of the party held last Saturday.


The former zonal executive, among other demands, also prayed the court to grant an order nullifying the ratification by and/or affirmative resolution of the convention approving or effecting the dissolution of the PDP South West Executive Committee and the appointment of a South West Zonal Executive Committee in replacement.

The suit was filed in the court on behalf of the members of the South West Zonal Executive Committee of the party by its zonal secretary, Chief Pega Otemolu.

The suit, FHC/ABJ/732/2017, has the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP, Senators Ahmad Makarfi and Ben Obi, Eddy Olafeso, Bunmi Jenyo and the Inspector-General of Police, as defendants.

This is even as the Ogun State chapter of the party under the leadership of Engr. Adebayo Dayo is also praying the same court to set aside its purported dissolution by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Convention.

The case with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/701/2017 has Engr. Adebayo Dayo and Alhaji Semiu Sodipo as the first and second plaintiffs who sued for themselves and on behalf of the Ogun State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Ogun State chapter of the party is also seeking an order restraining INEC “from supervising any congress in Ogun State or recognizing any congress of the 1st Defendant (PDP) in Ogun State during the subsistence of the tenure of the Plaintiffs as officers of the Ogun State executive committee of the PDP which expires in May 2020.”

When the matter came up yesterday, the court adjourned the matter till the 5th of September, 2017, for the hearing of all pending applications but warned against disobedience of its orders.
